Asian
Cultural Union, as one of the largest and most prominent clubs on campus,
was founded in 1972. Since inception, our mission has been to celebrate
and promote all different Asian cultures through social, cultural, and
community service events. ACU continues this year to help develop dialogue
and facilitate communication among students of the NYU community. This
year, it has been our goal to give students a sense of community, develop
connections with peers, and present them with Asian professionals, who
have become prominent leaders in their fields. It has been an extremely
successful year establishing ACU Families, a mentor / mentee flagship
program, linking executive board members and upperclassmen with underclassmen
to develop long-standing personal and club relationships as well as
unity. We have also continued sponsoring other large events, such as
The Venue, an evening of performances showcasing NYC-based Asian-American
artists, and continuing our tradition of Asian Professionals in America,
a series of panels with professionals from diverse fields sharing their
experiences in breaking stereotypes in the workplace and giving advice
to students at the 1st Annual Asian American Student Conference, in
co-sponsorship with Asian Heritage Month Committee and Columbia's Asian
American Alliance.
